Biography

Clari Netzer was born in 1961 in Monterrey (Mexico). She is the youngest daughter of Rumanian Jews and Holocaust survivors who immigrated to Mexico in mid 1950's. In México she was attracted by the Primitive Art of different cultures that lived in ancient México, the folklore and Mexican Art history. This influence is considerably noticeable in her artworks and in her activities as an Israeli artist today. At an early age she discovered her natural talent for painting and fell in love with this art. In 1983, after graduation from the University of Monterrey, she decided to immigrate to Israel.

Currently she works with acrylic and pastel colors. Her works are mainly influenced by the years she leaved in Mexico and her attraction to the ethnic issue. Mexican artists as Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo and the unique Picasso inspire her artistic work. In one hand her portraits seek to express humanity qualities, and in the other hand her totems figures intend to express her admiration for the primitive art. Both subjects are presented in trivial situations with energetic backgrounds. Clari Netzer focuses on figurative painting, on people who have a story to tell. She seeks to express and show the human qualities of inner beauty and character. As with the Aztecs who believed in dualism, she uses contrasting elements which eventually come to balance and harmony. Her artworks show a prominent harmonious composition, symbolisms and figures that add a dimension of mystery to the pictorial narrative. Regardless of rules and/or perspectives her paintings come from a non-conventional point of view yet are fill the senses and share meticulous aesthetics. The colors, the movement, and sometimes the contradictory compositions bring forth the power of the painting.

Biography

Benjamin Shiff was born in 1931 in Germany and immigrated to Israel with his family at the age of two. Shiff's participation in the battle for Jerusalem during the War of Independence and the challenging years of the young State of Israel left an indelible mark on him and shaped his outlook on life. It brought forth, at age forty, an explosion of creative expression. He immersed himself in painting and explored music, poetry as well as philosophy. The result being that in addition to his extensive body of artwork, Shiff has published three poetry books and two books of short stories. He is also a member of the Hebrew Writers Association in Israel. After his initial fascination with Belgian Surrealist artist Rene Magritte, Shiff enriched his oil and tempera painting techniques, which were widely used by the Old Masters, through advanced studies in Austria. He sharpened his perspective and added spiritual and mystical dimensions to his work through the study of philosophy, kabala, hasidism and Jewish philosophy.

Shiff's distinctive style is a blend of realistic figures and a touch of cubism. His figures are drawn from a profound knowledge of human form and its emotional potential, and are examined through a metaphysical prism. The subjects seem to search for comfort and refuge, and possess a kind of lyrical melancholy. They have a translucent quality, an illusion of an inner light. They express the artist's quest to resolve the conflict between an often cruel reality and his innate idealism. Shiff's portrayal of women in general and mothers in particular, explores their softness, tenderness and mystery. His other subjects evoke mysticism and spiritual longing that reaches beyond the visual enjoyment of the observer.

Benjamin Shiff's works appear in the collection of the Slovakian Presidential Palace, and the collection of the Cultural Museum of Judaism in Bratislava. Many of the artist's works grace the halls of the Department of Foreign Affairs' new offices, in Jerusalem. Many others hang in many private collections in Europe, the US and Israel.

Alex Pauker was born in 1974 in Sverdlovsk (Ekaterinburg) city (the former USSR). He finished the Ekaterinburg College of Art and immigrated with his family in Israel in 1996. It was here he discovered his talent for creating beautiful paintings of natural landscapes. At present he works in various genres. In his scenes of the Jewish life everyone can feel the very strong influence of Chagall. His works can be found in many private collections in USA, Canada, Europe and Israel.
